Last reflection on EIR

This has been a few months that i spent with my classmates. I guess it ends well. i went to the uirblogger.blogspot.com to look at the message from Ms Farida. I even post my comment on her blog.

I think the important that i learnt is the second part of EIR which website evaluation. Before i was introduced to this topic, i just accept any information that just come across. Now i have learnt to evaluate the information based on the evaluation criteria. I think i could apply this knowledge for my future projects.

Tutorial 5&6

If someone asks me about the significant learning experience for me to working in a group, I would like to tell them that I have realized working in group allows me to brainstorm on more ideas and also provides complete information and knowledge. It also trains my interpersonal, communication and conflict management skills. I also feel that through group work, I can understand and know one another better.

However, I faced conflicts and disagreements. I tried to compromise in order to resolve this. I believe I have applied conflict management skills. Overall, it is rather beneficial learning in groups.

As an individual contributor, I have gained from this experience was that I learnt to be independent learner instead of relying on my lecturer learning note. I learnt what I have contributed to my group wiki. Though topics to be researches are distributed to each member, I have to make sure that my findings will not fail my group mates.

After a series of researching, I could not find articles. I found this is my most challenging experience I had during group work. It seems my points are way off from the content, thus, it does not available in the internet. I have to think hard on other possible areas that can be related to the internet security as it is my group question.

If there is a next batch wiki groups that they are going to embark a similar project, I would to like to advice them to come together and list as many as possible so that if ten of the points they listed are invalid or can’t be found, there are still other points.

I would use Wiki as a research in my own Diplomas. As I do the Wiki for the EIR e-learning, I found that information I added in Wiki is what I understood from other websites and wrote it in my own words. It is compiled information. Thus, I will be using Wiki for research in my own Diploma.

Reflection on Twitter

Twitter is a social networking site which can be considered as a part of blog. I have to follow a person Twitter so that the information will be available to me. Whenever the person types something to the Twitter, I could view at it. Twitter allows me to discuss and debate on a topic. In the beginning of the EIR, I was asked to follow one of the EIR lecturers. Initially, I followed blindly and do not care about. After a couple i felt boring so I went to check the Twitter, I found that that lecturer asks about the learning. The post is divided out and i might to spend time to read each post. However, it has definitely enhanced my learning of EIR.

BlogSpot is just a site that everything is stated there. Although I can comment about the post, the owner might have time to view it and give me a reply. However, i still feel that Twitter has enhanced my learning of EIR better than BlogSpot since it is more interactive.

Both Twitter and BlogSpot are just personal opinion on a topic. They are useful when i am trying to research on a topic that are just nice they are related. The information that found there might not be biased, it might contain some facts. I just have to compare with other websites to justify the truths within the post.

Reflection on Wiki Experience

Our group got the question of "What is internet security?". Many people are unhappy but my groups are rejoicing for getting it. After we got it, group members spent 15 minutes to understand what the case study is about. It is about Google being investigated but the FCC for wireless data collection. Although Google denies the charges on it, it really broke the law.

Then we gathered around at Donovan's desk, we asked each other on what could be related points. We listed out quite a lot points and allocate to each members. I went back to my computer and searched for the points that allocated to me. I spent 30 minutes to search for them in vain. Then I went back to Donovan and told what i think that is about other points. However the class had came to the end, we brought our works home to complete them. We agreed to send the works to Donovan to compile since he is our group leader.

For my parts, I did the invasion of privacy rights and the types of security threats. I have learnt much about them through internet. I was ignorance in the past but after the searching I have increased my general knowledge on the internet security.

Evaluate one of my classmate's blog

After looking at all of my classmates’ blog, I am impressed by Donovan blog. He has done the most spectacular job in his blog. I can make it a point that I could find the updated post in every week. His blog slogan is cool. From his blog, I could see that he is diligent person. His blog layout is something unique.

Criteria used to evaluate Stomp.Com

I used Purpose, Coverage, Authority, Accuracy and Currency. They are the necessities to evaluate the quality Stomp.com. Those guidelines will help me to ensure the information is useful in my research.

I have learnt for purpose. I need to determine whether the aims, objectives or limitations are stated. I need also to determine the level in which the page is pitched, for e.g. subject expert, a layperson, or a student? And whether the site satisfies the needs of the intended users?

The factors that affect coverage is the subject areas and the types of materials covered. It also includes the range of different subjects covered (breadth) and the level of detail (depth) provided about each subject. In addition, I should determine the retrospective coverage of the source as it will affect the comprehensiveness of the sources as well as the value and its usefulness.

One of the main factors in assessing the authority of an information source is the knowledge and expertise of those who produced the source. It is normally considered authoritative if it has been written by a subject expert or if the institution/organization is recognized for its knowledge in the subject area.

To help me assess the accuracy of the information, I can look at whether information is based upon research or whether it has been through refereeing.

I need to check for dates in source to see whether information was produced recently.

To create my own stomp which will be different and outstanding, I will impose different purpose, Coverage and Currency.

I would target the young as they are the next generation and it is easily to keep an habit when they are young.

I would cover the topic from the global warming to wildlife and also the impact too.I would maintain the website regularly so that all information are presented in front of the audiences are current.

I will include Accessibility service to ensure that my “Stomp” effectively address the implications for teaching and learning of Citizen Journalism mentioned in the article. It will help the user to go straight the point.
