Second Life Holiday in Japan and UK

Second life in Japan used many anime characters and objects. They had the anime poster on the building's wall. The surroundings were filled with the anime atmosphere. If you are an anime lover, you should visit Japan in Second life game. I think what they were trying to display in the second life was Japanese features and characteristic. I felt I am exactly in Japan.

UK

I went to the England in Second Life. I found that the Graveyard and shopping malls are close. The items in malls are the latest fashions which are now happening in the world. The tombs in Second life are beautiful.

My dream is to travel to Japan and UK. I wish to know more about UK and Japan. Why UK is strong in the past? By travelling to UK, I can unveil the secret. And Japan, I watch a lot of Japanese anime. I want to go there to buy anime costumes as well as participate in the Japan Annual Cosplay Event.

My dream Holiday

The website has brilliant layout. It arranged in such a way that any users like me, could easily see an overview about the Britain. The website easily breaks into the category. I could also get to the in-depth details of the category.

I worried the information might not be true as it seemed. So i played safe by checking who the authors behind the website were. Luckily, I was managed to find out that those people are the staffs of the Britain Tourism Board. Thus, I believed the information is reliable.

I could easily navigate around the website. The information are well organised and they were placed in different categories. Categories were named as close as the details in the categories. I was pleased because I could able to go straight to the information that I needed and pull them

The most important criteria that I applied in this website are purpose, authority and usability.

This following picture shows the building that has historical value.

Christians constitute about 71% of the population of the Britain. They practise thier christianity at the Anglican Church. This following picture is Anglican Church.

The House of Commons is the lower house of the Parliament. It’s a democratically elected body consisting of 646 members called Members of Parliament (MPs).

The House of Lords is the upper house of the Parliament, and here members called ‘Lords’ meet to debate, change Bills and scrutinise the work of the Government.

I know you are wondering why i picked Britain as my dream holiday. It is because in the past, my homeland, Singapore, was occupied by the Great Britain. By travelling to UK, i might able to unveil the secret why they chose Singapore as a trading port in the Penisular Malaysia region. I also wish to know more about the culture about the britain. I love to go there to have a sightseeing at the Britain scenery.

Citizen Journalism means to me

I think Citizen Journalism means to me that it is a wide range of activities in which people contribute information. It provides more information than wiki. Those people posted information to Citizen Journalism aren’t limited to professional people. So long people wish to post information, they are allowed. It is anyone regardless of their educations.
They are eligible to post information about the news. There aren’t any experts maintaining the website. The information that is from personal view, it might be biased.

It is like a tool to voice out to evaluate the veracity of content and increase understanding about appropriate uses of user-produced content. Citizen journalism encourages students like me to think critically about what it means to be unbiased, to present competing viewpoints, and to earn readers’ trust. It is a way to improve the research skill

Evaluate different database

EbscoHost Research Database

The search results that returned to me are arranged in relevance according to the words in the search query.  There is a relevant bar to indicate how useful of the source is going to be. It is displayed beautiful. Followed by the subject, it is highlighted in Blue. It provides where the data is picked from which database. I could add to folder. I could see the citation.

However, the source does not give exact information I wanted based on I have searched.

Newslink Research Database

It provides many white spaces for my eyes to rest. It provides the picture of how the front page of the newspaper looks like. It provides description before I clicking into the source. It tells me what pages is the source from. The heading is highlighted by blue. It provides me citation.

The search returns me result that gives me back partially relevant. Thus, I don’t find it useful.

Both are different in terms of features. EBscoHost has more features than Newslink, Newslink provides me with picture while EBscoHost doesn’t provide me.

ITPRO Research Database

It provides more educational stuffs. Although it contains over 6,000 titles covering more than 100 different topics, it covers the range from business & culture, cyber security, graphic design, programming and software engineering. The data is gotten from its own search engine. It is only accessible only to TP students and staff.

Comparision database with search engines

I think it is more effective to search the invisible web (databases) than using search engines, meta-search or subject directories. Invisible web contains a collection of information stored in the form of data. Compared to other search engines that they provide much redundant information, database provides actual data or information.

Database contains articles, abstracts and citations, census data, patents, etc. Database gives reliable and up-to-date information. Most of them are maintained by government agencies and non-profit organizations. The bibliographic helps me in the reference part.

Yes, I will use the invisible web for research in my own respective diploma. When the database provides factual and abstract of the text information, I do not need to look up for books in the library. Since it is maintained by people, the information I believed is updated. I could use it with no worries.

The citation is given to me. I could save my time for writing out the citation for the book I used.

I realized what I knew was general. It is more to it. After searching information for my wiki, I learnt a lot. I lean what is global warming and wildlife. How the wildlife is changed after global warming has caused to them. How the global warming does came about. I learn there are hopes to slow down the process of the rising carbon dioxide in the Earth which leads to greenhouse effect. We also can play a part in contribution towards the environment. All information comes in to play a part.

Discussion forum

Discussion Forum
I participate in the discussion forum and started a new thread ‘The impact of the global warming on wildlife’ at Wildlife UK Forum. The purpose of doing so is to find out how the people treat this issue. I didn’t expect people actually response to my questions. I thought most of people treat this issue lightly and hardly give this topic a look. To my surprise, after I viewed back at my forum, I saw a few people responding to my topic. The following are some of the screenshots in the forum:

It was damn cool replies which I got back. I got to see different perspective on the topics. There is a response that gives me what is going to happen after 50 years later. That person is able to know and predict the outcome. That person really impressed me. I guess I have many things to learn. This gave me wider views on my topic.

Citation and Bibliography

It is important to give credit to people who give us the information. It is like giving respect and acknowledges the work of the writer. Firstly, the information that they receive isn’t an easy stuffs. They have to go around gathering the information. They also need to verify the information otherwise their reputation will be compromised. Secondly, they need to edit the grammar, tone, vocabulary and spelling. It is a tedious work. Lastly, they need to post up to the information. Therefore, we have to respect those people hard work since they are lending us the information for easy reference.

In today lesson, I learnt how importance of citation and bibliography that I need to give them credit otherwise I might up in troubles.

Reflection for EIR Week 3

Differences between Google and Google Scholar

My lecturer begins class on the Google and Google scholar. In the beginning, i thought there isn't any different between them. As I went on to my exercise, i began to realize the beauty and unique in Google and Google scholar. it is totally amazing. Google scholar gave me results that are articles-based while Google gave me web results and 100 times sources more than Google scholar.

In class I have learnt that if the results do not give you the accurate information, we can use the variation of the words to have a better search for results.

Discussion forum
Follows by I had to do the discussion forum on Facebook. In my beginning, I do not feel good and comfortable in writing my opinions in the discussion forum. The topic was on internet lives. I wrote that nevertheless the outcome still depends on individuals. I had to think out an neutral statement so that I will not invite the lawsuit and troubles. I found out this is not easy to leave an opinions on the forum. :D That is all for today.
